Des Femmes Update February 2023
Moving to Substack, our community as a freelancer collective, bitcoin multisigs, and more
Hello and welcome to the Des Femmes pop up newsletter! 👋
This Substack is our home now for public monthly updates. We’ve missed you all since the great Revue debacle of December 2022, when Twitter suddenly deleted our mailing list along with all our newsletter content. It’s a rough way to learn an important lesson about backing up your own data. 😬
We hope the subscribers who found us once before are also following us on Instagram and Twitter, so that our paths shall cross again. (Read more here to see a partial archive of our 2022 newsletter, including information about our ‘decentralize to community’ partnership with the nonprofit Women in Blockchain. We’ll have more details coming from them over the next few months.) We’re putting this call out into the universe to find us now here. 📣
Due to the success and feedback from our programs in 2022, we are working on making financial literacy more accessible and collaborative for independent freelancers. We’ll explore a new community structure in 2023: Freelancers’ collective.
Speaking of changes, 2023 is going to be a year of transformation for the Des Femmes community. Long-standing community members can individually leverage the shared resources we’ve garnered over the past two years to seek and manage opportunities they can personally take ownership of. Des Femmes community members already do collaborate independently and find jobs through our platforms, so it feels like a natural progression to establish this as the norm and expectation.
Meanwhile, we’ll create a new bitcoin multisig wallet with a small handful of community members (if you’re keen to join, email leigh@desfemmesmagazine.com for more details) and plan at least one exclusive IRL event for Des Femmes contributors.
We’ve taken individual membership options off the website during this restructuring time. However, we’re happy to manually onboard members of the community who reach out because they are really committed to our vision of empowering cypherpunk women. Let us know if that’s you. 😊
In short, this year we are incorporating all the lessons learned from 2022, while dismantling our current LLC (which will settle up tax requirements and allow us to accept dollars from both corporate members and magazine buyers for a few more months) to focus on building experiences for women who want to build wealth together and grow their fintech skills. From now on, we’ll keep you up to date on all the accomplishments and opportunities we face on this adventure together. 👭
Until next time, stay curious!
